Dye
2019-21
Plant dyeing is a good way of harnessing the virtues of sargassum through local craftsmanship. After several stages of research, we found a recipe for extracting colour-producing compounds from the seaweed. Using two mordanting techniques, we created two different colours: a golden ochre and a red ochre. We also produced hybrid colours with indigo, then continued our research to give the colour more brilliance and approach the stability of an industrial aesthetic.
