Brick
2020-21
Raw earth bricks are a building material of the future. They use earth, which is abundant and non-polluting, and require no firing. However, they contain lime, which is energy-intensive to extract and can prove harmful in use. Here, the seaweed fibres act as a structure. Polysaccharides, the polymers that make up seaweed, act as a glue and make it possible to replace the lime. The other advantage is, of course, the industrial potential, which makes it possible to make use of sargassum in large quantities. Applications range from architecture to scenography and furniture.
